View Full Version : What to do in LA area for a day? KJK 04-08-2010, 01:49 PM I'll be going to the LA area next week and have a free day. KJK 04-08-2010, 01:59 PM what the hell do you want to do? I don't know. The Peterson Automotive Museum is supposed to be cool. Maybe a Paramount studio tour (cheese factor could be high but who knows). Maybe just drive around in the nicer areas and check out how the other half lives. Find a nice spot to lunch and people watch? D-Dog 04-08-2010, 01:59 PM Drive down the Pacific Coast Hwy from OC Airport through Laguna Beach to Dana Point Harbor area, restaurants etc.. and near SJ Capistrano where you will need to be later. If you get too far away from SJC traffic will likely be a bitch later in the day. I kind of thought the PCH would be a good way to get there from LA if I even go up there. norcal420 04-08-2010, 02:00 PM Drive down the Pacific Coast Hwy from OC Airport through Laguna Beach to Dana Point Harbor area, restaurants etc.. and near SJ Capistrano where you will need to be later. Find a nice spot to lunch and people watch? If you end up going into LA proper (like near Peterson)... AND you like Thai food... Go HERE -> for lunch http://tuktukla.com/ Nice looking.. But small... You will NOT be disappointed... It's basically a few blocks from Petersons... Which by the way is right across from the Labrea Tar Pits museum http://maps.google.com/maps?rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS350&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=tuk+tuk+los+angeles&fb=1&gl=us&hq=tuk+tuk&hnear=los+angeles&cid=0,0,5129179045536778463&ei=Fhq-S_zBB8OqlAfZ6p2SBw&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CAcQnwIwAA Hooligan 04-08-2010, 02:06 PM The Peterson is kind of a haul from Orange County/Dana Point, but if you wanted to head up there, you would be close to Beverly Hills and Westwood. You could easily spend a full day at the museum, taking in the celeb houses, looking at Rodeo Drive, La Brea Tar Pits, and then spend some time on the canyon roads and driving along Mulholland Drive. Santa Monica is not far, either. But all of this is a serious haul from OC, especially on a weekday. Plan on maybe 90 minutes from OC airport to the Peterson if you are lucky. Two hours + is more realistic. LA traffic has no logic. But honestly, I would skip the houses of the rich and famous. If you want to see a better groomed, larger concentration of wealth, just stick to the Park Cities here. WideTrack 04-08-2010, 02:24 PM Huntington Beach Pier is aways a cool place to go, hang out, and watch the locals surf. There a Mexican joint like right across the street that is excellent. Brock 04-08-2010, 02:26 PM View the sites in Crenshaw. KJK 04-08-2010, 02:34 PM I guess I'll just head west from the airport and pick up the PCH and explore that southward. Going into LA proper is probably too much of a pain what with traffic and all. Brock 04-08-2010, 02:37 PM Everything I know about LA was learned from rap music. If you go North first to Huntington Beach (Surf City) as Widetrack mentioned then turn around to head South you would be fine with traffic. KJK 04-08-2010, 02:49 PM If you go North first to Huntington Beach (Surf City) as Widetrack mentioned then turn around to head South you would be fine with traffic. This sounds like the thing. Google shows Huntington beach pier area to be plenty cool. Road Head 04-08-2010, 03:05 PM I'll be going to the LA area next week and have a free day. There are some places to eat right around there. I also like the Newport Beach pier. It has more of a boardwalk type area than Huntington Beach. If you are feeling really adventurous, walk down to the tip of Newport Beach, and ride the ferry to Balboa Island. You can wander around the perimeter of the island and look at the houses.
