Thinking of upgrading cell phone, currently using Galaxy S3 on Virgin Mobile.

S7 Edge on Verizon. I've had it since about May, I think. Like I said, it isn't an epidemic like the exploding Note 7, but do some googling and you'll find that I'm not the only one out there. John had the same issue with an S7, don't remember his carrier though. There have been a few reports of iPhone 7 models doing it, too. Huge amount of processing power, Li-ion battery throwing current in and out a lot, Li-ion batteries getting made in much more factories for much less money than five years ago, so damn thin there's nowhere for heat to go. It isn't surprising for these issues to start popping up.

:werd: I've had a couple get stupid hot, swell, and even hiss/fizz/flame in RC stuff, so it isn't surprising to me at all. Samsung has also gone to 9V/1.67A charging on the S7 models (from 5V/2A on older stuff) and you can feel a significant warming as it charges.

I ain't saying it's gonna explode, I'm just saying I won't be surprised if it does, and I damn sure won't be surprised if it has component failure in far less than two years from the big heat cycles. Maybe it'll be fine, who knows.

YO HOW HOT IT GETS WHEN YOU WATCH THE PORNO STUFF?

I've yet to use wireless charging on any of my phones, even though I've had three that were capable, so that isn't as important to me as it is to you - it's up to you to weigh how much in that case.
Actually, I rate wireless charging in the "sounds cool, I'd like to try it" category. Call it a bonus but not a requirement.

There have been some reported with the S7 and S7 Edge. Just nowhere near as widespread. Mine gets so hot you can hardly touch it, then it will just randomly do things like it things you're touching stuff, then it shuts down. Even if it never pops I don't expect it to live terribly long with so many extreme heat cycles.

S7 and edge have am SD slot. I don't recommend the phone due to what I mentioned above, though.
We've talked about all of the issues with mine (similar to yours). Battery is really taking a shit now. I always close out apps when I'm done and barely used it yesterday, and I had to charge it at 5:00 because it was done. ridiculous. way worse than my iPhone 6 was. Huge mistake trying a non iPhone.

I'm with Verizon btw.

I'm considering an "international version" of the S7, only for GSM (non-CDMA) networks. Different processor than US versions, 20% to 30% better battery life, I suspect it runs cooler too.

If you buy an international version, make sure it's covered by warranty. A bunch of international market phones I see are advertised as having no warranty.

I thought so too, until I had it. Now it's a requirement for me. I have one at home and one in the office. Makes a huge different to be able to just set the phone down vs fumbling with the cord to plug it in. I leave the office with it charged to 100% every afternoon. Before I had wireless charging, I almost never plugged my phone in, in the office. It's just not convenient to plug/un-plug every time I get up from my desk. It's also awkward because the plug typically isn't coming from where I'm sitting which means my phone is turned around backwards if I plug it into the wall or computer. Plugging/unplugging when I wake up at night and want to check my phone or the time or something in the dark is also annoying without wireless charging.

Great feature. Love it way more than I thought I would.

My Sony fone is badass. No problems in the 2yrs I've had it. I plan on getting the latest Z flavour when I feel the need to replace this one. It's solid

You have to buy the stupid charge pad though so I never bothered.

I think I got mine on Amazon for ~$20 each. Got one, liked it, got a second. Would like to see that start being built-in to vehicles and what-not. Would also like a larger form factor pad that could charge multiple devices.

You going to get it with ads or without? I was sufficiently annoyed by the ads on my Kindle that I pawned it off on :wifey:
They are on the lock screen only. It has never bothered me once on my regular kindle or 7" fire tablet. I couldn't even tell you what it was advertising two seconds later.

I guess I'm just extra picky.

if you get it, I'll be curious of how it works. Need to find a phone for my mother that's not a lot of money. For $120 she might be good to go.

Once upon a time, you could get a bootloader unlock code from Motorola and then put a generic Motorola ROM on the phone. Amazon put a stop to that practice. :jump:
