Yeah, it's business for sure. The Dell control shit is ****ing homo. I want to uninstall the Dell backup and recovery program completely, but IT said NEGATIVE BRO.
Just uninstall it anyway. IT guys love it when the users are self-motivated and make changes on their own.

I found out they shit a brick when I installed Windows 10 before they approved it. They mentioned it to me a few weeks ago in a very nonchalant way and asked me why I installed it. Then they asked if I had any issues with it before they finally approved and installed it on other machines.

Should I just FORMAT C: /Y this bitch?

I'm surprised they give you any local admin rights.

That's just stupid.

Never let users have any admin rights. Ever. They **** things up and then blame IT for their own actions.

I've had admin rights my entire career and haven't ****ed up a computer yet. These turds were impressed I got the printer drivers to work with Windows 10... I did nothing. jjj

You're in a minority.

Usually it's the people who think they know what they're doing that **** systems up the worst and the fastest.

Full disclosure, I **** them up too... but that's a part of my job and I document how to fix said ****up.

Got two quotes. Both were Dell Optiplex rather than Precision. Neither appeal to me.

i7-6700
16gb (8gbx2)
M.2 512GB PCIe SSD
Dual AMD Radeon R5 340X (2GB)

i7-6700
32GB (8gbx4)
1TB "hybrid" 5400rpm drive
Dual AMD Radeon R5 340X (2GB)

The first is a little over $1500, the second is a little over $1300. The only redeeming part of the cheaper one is I could probably source 3rd party 1TB SSDs and use the "hybrid" POS as a data drive.

You'll be much happier with workstation class. For shits and giggles, go to pathmark and see how they stack up.

Both Optiplex and Precision are considered workstations. What is pathmark?

Typo on my part. PassMark Software - PC Benchmark and Test Software

OptiPlex is not a workstation. Never was, it doesn't appear on their workstation page either. Workstation class machines typically have better chipsets and a greater memory capacity. I'm not at work today so I cannot pull some samples but I've recorded noticeable performance differences between workstation class machines and performance desktops which some of the OptiPlex devices qualify as.

I tested some Precision T3630's for our purchase this year and found them to be pretty good machines. HP wants our business and underbid Dell enough that we went with Z240 workstations. Specs are basically identical and so is the performance.

I stand corrected. Also missed that the quotes had a 2tb additional drive.

Latest quote is over $1650 with Optiplex 7040, i7-6700, 32gb, 512gb SSD, 2TB HDD. That's not horrible. Asking for the same quote for a Precision chassis.

See if you can get competing quotes from HP & Lenovo. Z240 & TS300 are equivalent to the Precision T3620.

I forget how the video card we got rates. It's an AMD W5100 I think, not as high on the performance scale as a similar Nvidia, but Bentley advised us to stay away from Nvidia right now.

I have administrative access on infrastructure components for a tier 1 application marked 'mission critical' to the organization.... But I can't install ANYTHING on my workstation. LOL...

I hate IT.

You should cause said components to have "issues" that can only be fixed by your having local admin rights. :jump:

sometimes I'm unnerved by the level of rights I have. And pissed that I cannot access things I think I need no matter how I explain to people that I need it.
