"Normal" Doc in Vista

WTF... Issues galore with this. Open a doc or try to create or save a new doc and I keep getting messages about "Normal" being edited in a different instance. Then when closing Word, more pop-ups regarding saving "Normal" etc. PITA!

Occassionaly I can't even shut down because "Normal" is running.

How do you fix this?
