It's alive. Might have to make a few changes, though. I'm not a gamer, but this thing needs to run Portal smoothly and that $20 video card doesn't cut it. The stock heatsink also is driving me crazy with the fan noise. Gonna have to spring for one of those bling-bling Zalmans.

I definitely would have bought more memory since it's so cheap. I am upgrading my friends PC and got him 2 gbs for 44 dollars.
Initial hardware purchasing was done on a budget three months ago. More/better RAM will go in eventually.

Coolermaster Stacker 830 Evo--$160
Antec Earthwatts 430W--$58
DFI LANParty NF590 SLI MR2/G--$100
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800--$56
AMD copper heatpipe heatsink--$20
1GB Elitegroup RAM--$20
GeForce 6500 128/256--$20
WD Caviar SE16 500GB, traded with free stuff
DVD-RAM, DVR-RW, PCI SCSI, floppy, etc. salvaged from previous build.

Not a bad build for a general use system. I have the principle of spend $$$ now, don't upgrade for years. I'm on year 4 on the desktop.

Athlon XP 3200+
1.5GB DDR400 RAM (only 3 slots....)
ATi Radeon X1650 512MB (added since All in Wonder died)
Asus Mobo with nForce2 400
Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus ATA133 160GB
Samsung Lightscribe DVDRW

It will become my father's desktop. If I don't buy a Mac Pro, I will probably end up building something with an LGA775 Xeon Processor. Something about being able to take higher heat makes me feel better about it.
