The fact of the matter is that scientists have no idea how the universe works. Every time a major breakthrough like this happens, it renders so much of what we thought we knew obsolete. This could very well disprove some of the "laws" of physics that have been established for centuries...

Even worse... since they have no idea what the fawk they are fawking with, they will end up killing thousands, millions or billions one day.

It's like the difference in subsonic and supersonic flow. There is still plenty we don't understand in many areas but it doesn't negate the physics in our gravitational atmospheric world. Think of it as a new variable that we didn't know about in the past.
