Forgetting for the point the officer was wrong to shoot to begin with- listen to the shots- HE'S STILL FIRING AFTER THE GUYS HANDS ARE UP!

:naw:

Thankfully only the trooper's shitty aim saved this guys life.

The video showing a shooting involving a state trooper and an unarmed man has been released to the public by police.

The video was taken from the dash camera installed inside 31-year-old Sean Groubert's vehicle during an encounter in which Groubert shot 35-year-old Levar Jones on September 4th at a Circle K gas station on Broad River Road.

Department of Public Safety Director Leroy Smith fired Groubert on September 19th after observing the video and reviewing a report from the State Law Enforcement Division.

In the video, Groubert can be heard asking Jones for his license. As soon as Jones reaches inside his vehicle, though, Groubert begins firing his weapon, shouting "get on the ground, get on the ground."

Jones, who was injured in the hip, stumbles away from the vehicle. He throws up his hands and can be heard asking Groubert "what did I do" and "what did I do sir?"

Groubert then tells Jones to put his hands behind his back. Ex-Officer Groubert was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Bond was set at $75,000.

The charges were brought by the Fifth Circuit Solicitor's office, which reviewed the findings of an investigation into the incident conducted by the State Law Enforcement Division.

A warrant states that audio and visual recordings, as well as written statements, indicate the shooting was without justification.

In dismissing Groubert, Smith called the facts of the case "disturbing."

Bad shoot, but only borderline by legal standards. Officer will probably walk if he can articulate that he felt his life to be in danger.

Another misleading thread title. Nobody was shot for not wearing a seat belt. He was shot because when the cop asked him for his DL he ducked back into his SUV and the cop presumably thought he was going for a weapon.

Before you get your panties in a wad, I am in no way defending the cop. There might be more to the story, cop was looking for an armed and dangerous person in a white SUV that fit this guy's description or something, but from everything in the video Mr. 5.0 is in the wrong. Cop needs fired (I understand he was) and convicted of criminal charges.

Not supposed to shoot based on the lack of seeing hands. Supposed to shoot because you see a weapon being aimed at you with the intent to end you.
I understand that, but cops know that if you're going to hurt them, you're going to hurt them with your hands. If they can see your hands at all times, you're likelihood for getting shot drops to almost nothing.

If they can't see your hands, and you're making quick movements, etc, then the likelihood of you getting shot by some dumbass cop (like above) goes up.

already too late.

FWIW.... I do think the cop overreacted.... draw his gun when he went back into his car.... absolutely, but to start firing.... nah

but again... someone please post the clip of how not to get your ass kicked by cops video.... because it applies.

There is no need to exit your vehicle during a traffic stop, and dip back in like he did. He may have not thought about how it looked to just go back in, but cops aren't mind readers..... if you don't want to get shot.... show some common sense. Because even if the cop is wrong, you're still dead.

I got pulled over once, (wearing my tie), I needed my insurance card. I told the cop, it's in my center console, and he shined his light into it as I opened it.... I didn't get shot.

I honestly don't think he was getting out because of the stop. I think he was getting out to go inside THEN realized he was getting pulled over.

This is correct- once again Florida man ignores everything in front of him and makes up shit to better suit his views.

The guy was going into the store and the cop was following him, he wasn't pulled over.

Also if the cop was looking for someone who fit his description than he also lied when he explained to the guy why he was there.

I could see that. Still a quick move back in, even though cop asked for it.... you gotta say, "yes sir, it's in my center console" or something to let him know you aren't thinking "fawk this, I ain't going back to the joint"

cop was wrong... does "being right" make up for having a bullet in you? This guy got lucky he didn't die from just assuming the cop knew what he was doing.
