Next weekend we are having a bbq rib cookoff. I’ve got the ribs down, but to bring some extra sizzle I want to do a “was DAMN good” homemade bbq sauce.

Molasses and brown sugar is a prime ingredient in every homemade BBQ sauce it attempt to make.

  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar

  • 1 ½ cups ketchup

  • ½ cup red wine vinegar

  • ½ cup water

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 ½ tablespoons dry mustard

  • 2 teaspoons paprika

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • 1 ½ teaspoons black pepper

  • 2 dashes hot pepper sauce

Very close to what I do, minus the molasses. I use some yellow mustard as well.

There is no 'best' bbq sauce for anything, especially ribs.
It really depends on how well you know the people and what they like.
Sweet / Tangy / Medium/Hot....and the list goes on.
And then you get into the regional stuff.

I usually make 3 or 4 kinds......little of everything. But that also assumes that you're not going to totally sauce the ribs first. :2cents:
