Status update that I'm sure will thrill kthrash...it seems the motherboard was destined for a very short life on this earth since it decided to go tits up sometime yesterday afternoon while running but sitting idle.

Yes. I think it was originally developed for the US Navy.
I think Tom Clancy liked to reference them in some of his books. I assumed it was a real thing. MP5/10, IIRC. According to Wikipedia they were made from 1992-2000.
I would prefer the MP5SD in 9mm - they say with the integrated suppressor that the bolt action is actually louder than the report if you use sub-sonic ammo.
