Maricopa County sheriff's deputies have found a body about 100 feet away from a Jeep belonging to a Phoenix woman who has been missing since January.
Holly Marie Bruce, 25, went missing Jan. 4 and was feared to be suicidal.
Before Bruce went missing, she hit and killed a man as he was crossing a Valley street. She was about to lose her home, according to a January news release from the Phoenix Police Department.
After she went missing, Bruce's family reached out to her several times through the media. Ten years ago, Bruce's father drove into a forest and shot himself. Family members of Bruce believed that she might have been attempting to do the same thing.
The Jeep and the body were found Monday morning in a desert area near Sunflower in the Tonto National Forest, officials from the Sheriff's Office said.
The body has not been positively identified and was severely decomposed. There was a handgun found near the body, officials from the Sheriff's Office said.
The cause of death has not been disclosed, according to the Sheriff's Office.
