This is a 13 month (12 + 1 'free') subscription card to XBox live for 22% less then Microsoft charges directly for only 12 months... If you don't buy this card then you need to give MS your credit card info and they charge you almost $50 for 12 months- which is worth it- but why pay it when you can get the same service for a lot less?
When it's time to renew (or sign up) instead of 'credit card' you choose subscription card from the drop down menu and enter the account number on the card... and that's it you add 13 months to your subscription.
I used it, no problem... Someone suggested buying a bunch of these to 'stock up on' but that isn't recommended as they do eventually expire and 13 months from now who knows where you'll put it... only buy as many as you can use in the next few months (maybe for yourself and as gifts).

you can 'recover' your account on your new/refurb xbox 360 as often as you have to.
