In order to show detail on the white petals, the exposure has to be decreased - my 4Mp point-and-shoot lets me change exposure in 0.5 steps up to +/- 2.0.

In order to get detail on the white petals, I had to resort to some sneaky tactics - this camera by Fujifilm does not have an option to increase or decrease exposure from the automatically calculated value.

I held a white sheet of paper behind the flower and half depressed the shutter, thus locking the exposure and focus, then removed it and framed the shot before depressing it fully to take the picture.

I finally discovered the buttons to +/- exposure. Bright flowers show more detail on a darker capture.
