Amazon Echo

Surprisingly good, actually. I don't have much (any, really) experience with small speakers like this, but I was very impressed with this. There's actual bass and super high end that expected to just be absent like on cheap car audio systems.
We have a rechargeable blutooth speaker that sounds pretty good and is much smaller than the echo, but I've been thinking about getting another one just for the kitchen. I just requested an invite.

I think it's worth a shot. Looks like Bluetooth speakers are nearly $100 anyway, so some added functionality for the same price is cool. Assuming Amazon doesn't abandon it completely it could be amazingly useful with future updates.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I'm also working on a new song, the lyrics go something like this: "Alexa, crank up the volume. <pause> HEY EVERYONE!! I'M WATCHING PORN!!!"

I watched a youtube review yesterday and they said the news sources were limited to NPR, CNN and MSNBC.. So ya, pretty liberal. This was an older video though, maybe even back in the beta version, I'm guessing the news sources have been expanded quite a bit since then.

The two main news sources are NPR and BBC.

Hopefully they will expand to recipes later. Since I'm trying to buy one for my wife for the kitchen (insert "good wife" joke here), being able to fling a recipe to her phone like it can do with shopping list items would be a nice feature. Strangely enough, in my brief review reading and video watching this is an item that keeps coming up.

"Alexa, what's the sound of a one handed clap?" :D

But she does not know "If a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound?"

She does answer "Alexa, what came first the chicken or the egg."

And

"Alexa, why did the chicken cross the road?"

if you say "Alexam knock knock" she tells a knock-knock joke. But if you say "Alexa, tell me a knock-knock joke" she doesn't understand the command.

You can ask what year a movie came out. who starred in a movie, and what an actor's most recent movie was.

She won't be able to answer if you ask what a specific movie was about.
